YouTube Really Becomes Yours

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Since YouTube first came on the scene, users have tried different methods to take the streaming videos and actually download them to their computers (with varying degrees of success).  Now, YouTube will be offering downloads of their videos, either for free or for a payment (depending on the desires of the video’s poster).  This changes YouTube from a online repository of videos to a vast distribution service of video for just about anybody.

For now, the video is downloaded in mp4 format, and reports point out that there’s still a long way to go before it becomes a competitor for iTunes.  Still, if you’ve ever wanted to take YouTube videos along with you on your iPod, this is what you’ve been waiting for.

The Royals Go Online

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

It might not help solve the current financial crisis, but Great Britain’s royal family have posted job availabilities on their recently revamped website.  Reports also indicate the site will include links to the royal YouTube channel and reports on the royal pets.  Kinda classes up the Internet, doesn’t it?

YouTube turns on the HD?

Friday, December 5th, 2008

YouTube has apparently activated HD versions of the some of the videos uploaded to its service (such as the Ghostbusters video game trailer shown here).  Remember, this won’t automatically “upgrade” standard definition videos to the new hi-def version, but it does indicate that HD videos will become more common as more uploads occur.

If you want to see the HD for yourself, just search for the subject you want to see the in text field at the top of YouTube and add “HD” to the tag.  If it’s available, you’ll get it.  Click the “View in HD” link under the video screen, and you’re ready to go.
