Throwing The Vault Doors Open

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

The excellent independent radio station WFMU is demonstrating why we need the Internet - they’ve opened the Free Music Archive for your perusal and use. The selection is still growing, but it gives you the chance to dig through some obscure and not-so-obscure (I found some EPMD cuts there, which should please old-school hip-hop fans). It also brings together several different radio stations and other sources, so you get a diverse selection. Go, download, and enjoy.

Free Samples!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

If you’re feeling a little adventurous, and you’re tired of looking for free music track samples all over the place, click this link. Amazon has collected together some great samplers of tracks from independent record labels (they’re the future, I’ve heard) like Barsuk, Anti, Sub-Pop and more.  Those names alone include artists like Death Cab for Cutie, Neko Case, Booker T., Michael Franti and more.  And they’re all free, both in terms of cost and guilt.

If you want to keep looking, just search “free mp3 sampler” on Amazon and see what turns up.  It’s not illegal if they’re giving it away.  Still, be sure to buy some albums from the artists you listen to if you like what you hear. Otherwise, you’re just standing in a virtual supermarket, filling up on the free samples.

Free Resume Printing Today

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

FedEx Office is offering free resume printing today.  With a physical copy or a digital file, you can get 25 black-and-white copies for free.  Then, do whatever you need to with them.  I’m not sure if this applies to their online printing or not, so be prepared to head to the office and stand in line.  Still, free is free.  Good luck!
