I wondered why today’s Stardate was showing up in my Google calendar. TechCrunch lept in with the explanation, so now you know what to do in case you want to join in the fun, too. Just be glad it doesn’t translate your appointments into Klingon.

Google Keeps Your Family Updated, Pt. 3

Now that you’ve shared all of the calendars, you can use your mobile devices to view, create and modify appointments on the go and have them sync with your main Google calendar.

Google Sync lets you choose your device and either setup your current software or download an application to do it. Now, go to Google Calendar and create your calendar by following the instructions. Once you’re done, share it to those you want to sync with. The instructions differ from device to device, but it’s worked perfectly so far on our iPhones. Alright, so your Google calendar is set and shared, and you’ve got everybody’s calendar links. Now, instead of switching from link to link, let’s set up a single view. Sign in to your Google Calendar and look to the left. Under the heading of Other Calendars, you should see the calendars you’ve been invited to share. If not, click the Add link to enter the email addresses associated with those calendars you’d like to see. For the sake of convenience, make these calendars different colors so you can tell all of the appointments apart. Just click the down arrow next to the calendar to choose a color.

My wife and I just started using a common calendar to keep our schedules in sync, and it’s working well enough that I wanted to share the process with you. It’s not a new idea or anything, but Google makes the process easy enough, and it does use some new features that make updating your calendar from anywhere quite simple.

Why Is Offline Gmail Such A Big Deal?

Google’s Gmail has been rolling out offline access for Gmail and Calendar for a week or so, and the results have been working fairly well.  The question, though, is “Why is this such a big deal?”  Wireless internet access is fairly ubiquitous at this point, and Gmail isn’t terribly useful unless you[’re connected to the Internet.  Neither is syncing your Google Calendar.  So take the time to do it?

Organizing your Super Bowl party online
