Staking Your Facebook Claim

Even as Facebook overtook MySpace as the social network of choice (right now), there was one thing MySpace had that Facebook users couldn’t beat - the ability to set your own URL for your page. While you could conceivably use myspace.com/yourname, the same option wasn’t available for your Facebook profile.

Until now.

According to the official blog, you can grab your personalized URL beginning at 12:01 this Saturday morning (that’s June 13th, just after midnight). It’s first-come, first-serve, so the John and Jane Smiths of the world are going to have to work quickly to grab their claim. It’s also going to be interesting to see how many “squatters” attempt to grab famous URLs. Some celebrities and groups have already been able to get their personal page, but the floodgates open soon. If it’s important to you, grab some coffee and stand by with your mouse. Click quickly, my friends. Click quickly.
