The Annotated “Microsoft Lauren” Ad (AKA “The Truth”)

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The new Microsoft ads really cheese me off. So I’m glad someone (PeteZ) finally created a version of the “Lauren” ad that tells it like it is.

I found it at MacNutsAndBolts.com:

Have you seen the recent commercial where “Lauren” was given $1000 to find a real computer and then settles on a PC?

MacNutsAndBolts friend, Mac guy extraordinaire, and all around Apple Junky, PeteZ, put this together which shows a slightly different side of it. You have got to see this.

Brilliant!

What you need to know about Microsoft’s new chain of retail stores…

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I was going to write about Microsoft’s recent decision to open its own chain of retail stores but after reading these two excellent articles:

Microsoft’s new chain of retail stores isn’t necessarily a blue screen candidate :: Andy Ihnatko :: Chicago Sun Times

and

The Strategic Reason Behind Microsoft’s Retail Push: Windows 7 :: www.SeekingAlpha.com

I had to say, “why bother?” Andy Ihnatko says most of the things I was thinking and says them so much more entertainingly than I would have. And the Seeking Alpha article, while not nearly as amusing, manages to cover pretty much everything else I might have said.

So read both articles and you’ll know my feelings.

I’d like to take a moment now to thank the authors of both articles for letting me take this evening off. :-)

There is one last thing: If you just can’t get enough of this stuff, here’s a link to the Microsoft press release - Microsoft Appoints David Porter as Corporate Vice President of Retail Stores
